EchoBolt is pleased to announce the first deployment of its BoltWave™ ultrasonic inspection technology in Canada, partnering with Enbridge, a leading global investor and operator of renewable energy assets. With more than 4.8GW of wind power in operation, Enbridge plays a significant role in driving the growth of sustainable energy infrastructure across North America and beyond.

This inaugural deployment of BoltWave™ took place at the Greenwich Lake Wind Farm, where the technology is being used to support proactive structural integrity management of bolted connections across the turbine fleet.

Traditionally, wind turbine bolted joints are maintained through periodic, schedule-based check-tightening campaigns. These activities are labour-intensive, time-consuming, and often introduce unnecessary maintenance interventions. BoltWave™ enables a condition-based inspection regime, meaning maintenance teams can now monitor bolt tension changes over time and intervene only when required.

Ethan Slater, Wind Turbine Technician, shared his perspective on the transition:

“With the training and BoltWave equipment provided by EchoBolt, we are now able to monitor changes in the bolted connections at site, allowing us to intervene before bolt failure and eliminate the need to complete wholesale check-tightening campaigns. This technology provides an opportunity to significantly reduce maintenance interventions, improving availability and reducing operating costs.”

The implementation underscores EchoBolt’s commitment to supporting operators in improving turbine reliability, reducing operational expenditure, and enhancing asset performance — all while maintaining safety and structural integrity standards.

As the wind industry continues to grow, the adoption of advanced monitoring strategies like BoltWave™ represents a meaningful step toward optimized maintenance practices and long-term sustainability.
